Firefighter Lifestyle
Day-to-Day Activities of a FirefighterDepending on what happens during the day, a Firefighters day can be easy or really intense.Firefighters not only respond to fires, but also a variety of other emergencies. They are usually the first to arrive at a traffic accident scene, they help with medical emergencies, and are even called upon to treat injuries or other important tasks. So while they do a great job putting out fires and rescuing people from dangerous situations, they are very helpful in many other areas.
Training and Education RequirementsApplicants for jobs such as a Firefighter are usually required to have a high school diploma, however, people with postsecondary education are becoming increasingly more preferred. For several weeks, entry-level workers are trained at the departments training center or academy. Recruits study fire fighting techniques, fire prevention, hazardous materials control, local building codes, and emergency medical procedures, including first aid and CPR. Recruits also learn how to use chain saws, axes, ladders, fire extinguishers and other fire fighting & rescue equipment. After training is done and a fire company is assigned, recruits undergo a probation period.

I think the main highlight of this career is being able to genuinely help people and, even though it's over-used, "be a hero." I think it would be very rewarding being a Firefighter.
