Wonder of the World -- Christ the Redeemer
Since we learned about some Wonders of the World, I decided to share one of my favorites: This statue is 130 feet tall (plus its 31 foot tall pedestal), and is 98 feet wide. It weighs 635 tons and is located at the peak of the large Corcovado mountain. This statue is a very important symbol of Brazil's Christianity, and has become an icon in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The statues open arms symbolize that Christ embraces and welcomes those who come to him. To see the statue up close, you have to climb up 220 steps, where the amazing statue overlooks the city. It is completley amazing how this large statue was built on top of a mountain, without making a wrong move to destroy it. It took nine years, from 1922 to 1931, to build it, and it's height and size in general amazes me. This truly is a work of art, and a wonder of the world. Hopefully, we can preserve this, and prevent any accidents from making it get destroyed.
