The Patriot Act was created and designed to help people in the CIA, FBI, military, and police force discover potential terrorist attacks in the country. While this sounds like a terrific thing one would easily consent to and support, these people are able to wiretap into your phones and computer, and access any type of personal information, all without you knowing and without you even have committed a crime!
A Patriotic Act?
Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, the USA Patriot Act was passed.
Should the government be able to wiretap your phone without a warrant? I think it is wrong that the government is able to do such a thing to anyone, regardless if they have a criminal background or not. Sure, such a thing has helped in the past, and it could help keep us safe, but ultimately, it is a violation of the peoples rights and a huge violation of privacy. Then again, I don't think people in the CIA sit at their desk every day and pick a random group of people to spy on for fun, and for no reason. That would be unethical and weird. So, if there is a person who is leading the government to believe that he or she is up to something, then I think it is okay to wiretap. In the end, I'm sort of undecided.
