In Iran it's illegal to sentence people under 18 years to death when they commit a crime. Still, 8-9 of the under-aged criminals are executed every year. Delara Darabi was sentenced to death at the age of 17 accused of having committed a murder. She was innocent! She confessed to protect her lover and she did not think she would be sentenced to death because she was under 18.
Thanks to international pressure and campaigns to free Delara, her execution has been delayed several times. Her execution date was set to 28.04.09, but it was delayed by two months. It was the shortest two months the world has ever seen; without any warning she was hanged on 01.05.09. Rest in peace, Delara Darabi 1986 - 2009
