One conflict in the movie Holes was character vs. nature. It is an external conflict because Stanley and Zero were stranded in the desert and were starving and dehydrated because it wouldn't rain. This conflict was solved when Stanley and Zero reached the top of God's Thumb. When they reached God's Thumb, Stanley and Zero found water and sweet onions so they were saved from dehydration and starvation.
