Quartzite
Sandstone gets converted into a quartzite through heating and pressure usually related to tectonic compression within orogenic belts.
This rock can be many colors. If it’s a pure quartzite it is usually gray or white, but they can also be various shades of pink and red because of the amounts of iron oxide. Other colors such as yellow and orange are due to other minerals impurities.
Quartzite is a decorative stone and may be used to cover walls, as roofing tiles, as flooring, and stair steps.
Quartzite is a hard metamorphic rock that was originally sandstone.
In Canada, the La Cloche Mountains in Ontario are composed primarily of white quartzite.
