Slate
Slate is mainly composed of quartz and muscovile or illite. It is often along with boitite, chlorite, hematite, and pyrite and less frequently, apatite...(there are many more look at link to see them.)
Slate has two lines of breakability: cleavage and grain which makes it possible to split the stone into thin sheets.
Slate is great for roofing material because of its low water absorption. Less than 0.4%.
Slate is a good electrical insulator and fireproof. This rock was used to construct early 20th century electric switchboards.
Slate can be made into roofing slate, they are also called roofing shingles.
Slate is frequently gray in color especially when seen on covering roofs. In some areas slate can also be any shade of gray from pale to dark and it also may be purple, green, or cyan.
This rock is composed of clay or volcanic ash.
