Tuff
Most tuffs are found in older formations containing admixtures of sand, clay, and sometimes fossil shells, that prove they were bed spread out under water.
Weathering often changes the rock to a soft red or yellow clay-stone.
This rock is ejected from the vents during a volcanic eruption.
Tuff is sometimes called tufa, particularly when used as construction material.
They can be black, dark green, and red.
Tuff contains little to no quartz.
The ancient Servian walls in Rome, are made of tuff bricks.
