Common Sense
Monarchy doesn't make sense. The idea of a bloodline having hereditary rights to an entire people is absurd in a world where ''all men are created equal''. While a nation may currently have a good monarch, there is no guarantee that his/her children will be one as satisfactory.
''Common Sense'' was a forty-eight page pamphlet written by Thomas Paine, in a style understood by the general public, on why American independence was both necessary and just. It was first published on January 10, 1776, months before the Declaration of Independence was written.
Government is a necessary evil; there will always be individuals who harm others in some way or form and so laws and subsequently lawgivers will always be needed.
By Alyshia Smith, Julia Houser Sung-Hoon Kim, and Nick Strobin
It is ridiculous for an island such as Britain to have control over a continent.
The distance between America and Britain is simply inconvenient.
Europe consists of a great many different governments, and wars break out between them frequently. Because of America's connection with Britain, any war between England and another power creates economic turmoil for the colonies.
Britain is not the ''mother country'' of America; even if it were, what mother would do to her child what Britain has done to America?
America's people is not wholly British; much of it is comprised of people whose origins lie outside English borders.
