Background Genital Herpes is an infection caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. It is spread by physical contact with afflicted persons or including sexual intercourse, and during times when the blister sores are breaking out. The general symptoms of Genital Herpes may be hard to identify as they resemble the symptoms of several other diseases. The Causes Herpes Simplex is caused by 2 viruses, HSV-1 and HSV-2. Because it is very difficult to visaully tell if one has HSV, the spread of Herpes is often very hard to contain in countries without advanced medical faucilities. Treatment Haha, there is none... The closest thing we have right now are just antiviral treatments which can help alleviate the symptoms but won't cure you.
Epidemiology Genital Herpes is one of the most widespread STD's in the world. with an estimated 17.2 percent of the population in the United States alone diagnosed with the disease. In several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa this number has risen to over 80% diagnosed in females. While not as fatal as other STD's, Herpes can be extremely annoying and is very easily transmitted from person to person Transmission HSV is spread through bodily fliud of infected persons, or by direct contact with infected persons during periods of 'shedding'. The best way to avoid transmission (besides not having sex) is through the use of condoms/protection.
