Land Pollution
Land Polluion is the contamination of the Earth's soil and surface.
Chemical waste buried in landfills can leech into people's homes and cause cancer, birth defects, and death.
In one day in America, people throw out 200,000 tons of food and throw at least 9.2 million gallons of trash out of their cars.
One of the main factors contributing to land pollution is waste disposal. Most waste is buried in landfills and remains there forever. Eventually, there wont be any more room to bury waste.. Also, the incorrect disposal of waste is dnagerous and can be harmful to humans, plants, and animals.
We can cut down on land pollution by recycling our waste. Currently, only 2% of waste in America is recycled. Plastic, paper, glass, and metal can all be recycled. Organic materials can be composted. By reducing our waste, we help the environment.
Land pollution is caused by domestic and nuclear waste, deforestation, industrial waste, human waste, and mining of resources.
In the United States, half of our trash is disposed of in landfills.
