In the Han dynasty, they created the Silk Road. It was a trade route that traded with people in the west. They traded iron and silk. In return, they recieved goods that they needed.
China's geography helped them because it gave them protection. The mountains surrounding China were Himalayas and Tian Shan. Also the Goby desert
