Roman Food and Drinks
Bread, Beans, spices, olives,a few vegetables, and meats were the main foods in ancient Rome.
Daytime meals were quick and did not require lavish cooking Breakfast- a piece of bread and a bowlful of beans or a small bowl of oatmeal like substance.
Lunch- small bit of cheese and bread, or some olives or celery. Dinner- more elaborate and was considered the most important meal of the day. Poor romans ate chunks of meat or fish and wealthy romans searched for the perfect ingredients.
Romans breakfast usually included a piece of bread and a bowlful of beans or a small bowl of an oatmeal-like substance, called porridge.
For lunch, Romans had a small bit of cheese and bread, or perhaps some olives or celery.
Romans considered dinner as the most important meal of the day! Dinner was more elaborate. Poor Romans ate chunks of fish or meats served with asparagus and a fig for dessert. Wealthy Romans normally had dinner parties. To the left this is a picture of snails dipped in milk. It is a recipe they used.
