When farmers during the renaissance discovered tomatoes, the people feared them until they were used more often in Italian cooking. When you think italian food, you think many different styles of tomatoe sauces, but during the renaissance they were hardly used at all. Exotic spices and other abundant products were used to favor the Italian food.
RAVIOLI
Once pastas were developed, they were quickly adopted by the middle class because the main people who could afford meat on a regular basis were the wealthy.
During the early part of the renaissance, when not much foods were discovered, chefs used fruits and vegetables to complement the foods they cooked.
Mainly meat was eaten in the early part of the renaissance, but when potatoes were grown, they were quickly added to their culinary routine.
