Zither
The zither is part of the strings family. It has 30-40 strings that are stretched over a flat-sounding box. The strings are then plucked with a plectrum, a bow, by wind, or by fingertips. It is played horizontally.
The zither was invented in Germany and Austria in the 19th century. You can see thus instrument in front of a Heuriger Inn or at the Bavarian Alps usually playing folk music such as Viennese songs. It is used at Heuriger Inns, where a green branch is placed in front of the inn, where it annouces to all that this years wine, the Heurigen, is ready for consumption.
Its relative instruments are like the Autoharps, Melody instruments, and Chord Fabrication instruments.
