"Hope" is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson "Hope" is the thing with feathers -- That perches in the soul -- And sings the tune without the words And never stops at all -- And sweetest in the Gale is heard -- And sore must be the storm That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm I've heard it in the chillest land -- And on the strangest Sea -- Yet, never, in Extremity, It asked a crumb of Me.
The Brain -- is wider than the Sky -- by Emily Dickinson The Brain -- is wider than the Sky -- For -- put them side by side -- The one the other will contain With ease -- and You -- beside -- The Brain is deeper than the sea -- For -- hold them -- Blue to Blue -- The one the other will absorb -- As Sponges -- Buckets -- do -- The Brain is just the weight of God -- For -- Heft them -- Pound for Pound -- And they will differ -- if they do -- As Syllable from Sound --
This poem uses hyperboles and puns as it compares hope to a bird that brings comfort anywhere and that keeps people warm.
This poem compares the brain to the sky and saying that it is wider illustraiting that brains hold vast amounts of information and thereby using a hyperbole

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. -Confucius In this quote, we discern a fundemental truth: It's all how you look at it! Depending on your perspective, you can find beauty in many things but others may not feel the same way about it. It's like asking ourselves, 'Is the glass half-empty, or half-full?' This is both humorous and true.
Here is a comic strip that shows use of puns and irony
Recently, I was browsing a Fan Fiction website and found a rather funny example of a malapropism. One of the stories was a fanfic of the hit book series Twilight, and the sentence that I found so amusing read: Bella sat back after her meal, feeling contempt. I sent a note to the author, just as a friendly guesture and told her that I believe the word she was searching for was 'content' which means happy, and satisfied, but by accident she wrote 'contempt' which means disdain, or scorn. Hopefully, she'll learn her lesson and remember to spell-check and proof-read before she publishes another story.
I do not care what is written about me, as long as it's not true. -K. Hepburn This quote is both funny and true. It's a genuine human emotion to be angry when someone says mean or bad things about us, but the truth is, if the statement isn't true, then it doesn't matter. Like the saying goes, Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
In the song Doctor by Cute is What We Aim For one of the lines reads: ''I'm like a rookie paramedic to a siren, praying for an accident.'' This is humor, because it shows a hyperbole by saying that a new paramedic would pray for an accident to happen so that he could get in on the action. This line also demonstrates an oxymoron since paramedic's have to be well trained before they can work in the field, and yet the singer says that he's like a ''rookie paramedic.''
A friend recently sent me an email about the contents of the new Swine Flu vacine, some of the most interresting ingridients being: live cancer cells, pigs blood, horse blood, and chicken organs. Gross, I know, but also funny considering this vacine is meant to cure a disease that originates from pigs and yet contains the animals blood. Another interresting and ironic ingridient is the supposed live cancer cells, which means that there is a chance that you will survive the swine flu, just to die of cancer. Perhaps this is a more morbid piece of humor, but it is funny nonetheless because it really teaches us not to always believe everything that we read.
In the song Afraid of Flying by A Rocket to the Moon one of the stansa's reads: "Take me back to the person I used to be, when you were there for me." As we grow older, we change in personality, as well as appearance. Sometimes, we change into better people as we grow up, but sometimes we wish that we could go back to what we used to be like when we were younger. It's also true that sometimes when someone comes into our lives, or in this case leaves our life that can change us as well. That person, by coming or going, can affect us in big ways -ways that we may not realise until they come or go.
I found a sheet of paper in my aunt's office awhile back that had a circle and big bold-printed letters on it that read: Stress relief system, place on hard wall and follow the instructions inside the circle. The inside of the circle read: place forehead here, bang forehead until stress is relieved, or until unconsciousness is rendered.
