TYPES OF EROSION
sand and stone scrape the bed and banks like sandpaper-this is ABRASION rocks and stones knock together and wear eachother away. this is ATTRITION water is forced into cracks in the bank and over time breaks up the bank. this is HYDRAULIC ACTION water dissolves soluble material from the bed and banks. this breaks it up . this is SOLUTION
small particles of rock and soil are carried along. they make the water look cloudy . this is SUSPENSION larger stones or rocks get rolled along. this is TRACTION heavier material is carried along the bottom. this is the BEDLOAD sand grains and small stones bounce along. this is SALTATION
TRANSPORT
as the river slows down , it deposits the largest stones and pebbles first , then the smaller ones and then the smallest. Disolved material stay in the water and are carried to the sea or to lakes.
