Bohr's Model of an Atom
Bohr focused on the electrons in an atom which no one before him had done yet. A description on the arrangement of electrons in an atom is the centerpiece of the modern atomic model.
The possible energies that an electron in an atom can have are called energy levels. An electron in an atom can move from one energy level to another when the atom gains or loses energy.
Evidence for Energy Levels
The movement of electrons explains the light being emited from a firework also different elements emit different colors of light
Electron CloudA visual model of the most likely locations for electrons in an atom.
Scientists use the electron cloud model to discribe the possible locatoins of electrons around the nucleus.
An electron cloud is a good approximationm of how electrons behave in their orbitals.
Electron Configuration is the arrangement of electrons in the orbitals of an atom
The most stabe electron configuration is the one where the electrons are in the orbitals with the lowest possible energies.
