What's a Democrat? Democrats believe that the government should help the people of the nation. They think that we should have social programs to promote wealth and prosperity for minorities and the underprivileged. They are looking for change. I chose this group because even though I don't believe everything they stand for is right, the issues and the solutions that are most imortant to me--issues like global warming and Iraq--are represented by the Democratic party.
Abortion: Obama is pro-abortion because he thinks that a woman's body is her property, McCain thinks that killing unborn babies is wrong, so he's pro-life. I agree with McCain, a baby shouldn't suffer from the irresponsible choice of his mother.
Environment: Obama thinks that we should do something about the global warming and global crisis. He wants to provide “temporary relief” at the gas pump, but he also wants to come up with new ways to fuel our lives. He plans on implementing “green collar jobs” to help the environment and the economy, as well as helping to employ many more people. McCain believes thinks that we should try to find alternative fuel solutions but believes that we should drill for more oil in the meantime so we have enough fuel to continue with our lives. I think that the environmental issue is one of the biggest facing us today. We need to find alternatives to oil so we can make the air cleaner and healthier and stop our dependency on other countries. I side with Obama on this issue, because helping the economy and helping the environment can make a lot of difference in the United States.
Iraq: Obama thinks our presence in Iraq is pointless and costly. Since he feels that there is “limited progress” in Iraq, he says that if he became president, he would remove our troops from the country. John McCain believes that we should stay in Iraq because it’s our duty to help Iraq figure out how they want to govern themselves. He doesn’t think that George Bush made a mistake by sending troops to Iraq. c.I feel that George Bush made a good decision by sending troops to Iraq at the time, but I don’t think we should be there anymore. I take Obama’s side with this, though, because even if we disagree with what happened in the past, Obama’s going to try to take the troops out of Iraq and change the things that are happening right now.
Immigration: Barack Obama believes that we should make our borders more secure so illegal immigrants can not enter into our country, but he also thinks that we should make the illegal immigrants that are already here citizens. He feels that we should encourage more legal immigration to help fuel our economy, so there are more jobs as well. John McCain also thinks that we should secure our borders and help illegal immigrants become legal. He also believes that we should help immigrants get their green card so they can come into the country legally. He thinks we should address and train the immigrants that are already here so they can help make this country a better one. I feel that immigration should be legal, but I think it should be easier for aliens to enter the country. They shouldn't have to wait 15 years or more to find freedom.
Heathcare: Obama feels that we should provide healthcare to all, even if they are unemployed. McCain believes that everyone should have health insurance, as well, but he thinks that we should do that by trying to get better coverage for people so they can afford visits to the doctor and hospital should they need it. I think that health care should be available to everybody that works. If somebody loses their job and can’t get another for six months to a year, then they should still be eligible to get proper health care. However, if the person can’t work because of a physical or mental condition, they should have unlimited health care.
Same-Sex Marriage: Obama personally thinks that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but believes that it is up to the state to determine whether they want same-sex marriage to be legal or not. John McCain feels that “the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman”. He doesn’t think that we should allow same-sex marriages. I personally think that same-sex marriage is wrong. I agree with John McCain on this issue, but I don’t think that this is one of the most important issues in the upcoming election.
THE FACTS
What's The Difference?
DEMOCRATS: Democrats are also called liberals, and they are trying to improve the country for the induvidual people. They are usually ones to start social programs that benefit the people of the country, but raise taxes to do fund these projects.
REPUBLICANS: Republicans are also called conservatives and they want to improve the country as a whole and do what's best for the economy, not necessarily every induvidual person. This group is run primarily by wealthier people who want to help to make the economy grow.
