Color LCDs used for television displays have color pixels. These color pixels are made up of three red blue and green subpixels. by giving each subpixel more or less voltage, the subpixel can change shades.
Many LCD's that you see every day are not color and are used for displays for iPods, computers, watches, and many other things.
