Alkali Metals
~1 valance electron ~softer than most metals ~belong to group 1 A ~very reactive because they can easily lose an electron, which makes them have a full shell and puts them in a happy state ~have same properties of all metals except they are more reactive and are much lighter than most metals, which sets them apart ~their chemically ability to react increses as you move down the group ~they form an ion with a single positive charge by losing one electron ~when they react with water they produce hydroxides and give off hydrogen ~they react quickly with air ~hydrogen sits in group 1, but it is NOT an alkali metal. It doesn't belong to any family. ~In nature they are never found in their pure state, only in ionic compounds.
