When on vacation at his Uncle's house, he went to a store to get snacks on a hot summer day. One of his friends dared him to flirt with the store owners wife, who was white. The store owner, named Roy Bryant, also being white found out and wanted to 'teach the boy a lesson'. So Bryant and his half brother, J. W. Milan went to Till's uncle's house looking for Till. They took him, tied him up, and put him on the bed of their truck and drove to the next country. Once there, they dragged him into a shed on a plantation and started to beat him. after he was unconsious they shot him . Then, to make sure he was dead, they tied barbed wire around his neck and attched a cotton gin fan to him and threw him into the Tallahatchie River. He was found three days later and retrieved by two fishermen. Later, they went to court and the all white jury aquitted them of all charges. One persom said "If we had'nt stopped to drink pop, it would'nt have taken us that long" to aquit them. Till was put in a pine box and almost buried, but then his mother said she wanted him to be buried in Chicago, where he was from. The funeral home said that they would not open the casket but Till's mother argued that she wanted to see her son once more, but after seeing his mutilated body , which had multiple bruises, and eye gauged out, was shot in the head and cuts on the neck from the barbed wire, she wanted to leave it open for the funeral, but the state of Mississippi would not allow the funeral home to open it, so she threated to open it herself and allowing people to take pictures, famously saying "I wanted the world to see what they did to my baby."

The Story
The aquittal outraged many people and energized the nascent Civil Rights Movement. I f this didnt happen there would have been something else in Mississippi that would have provoked the news and Civil Rights Activists.
