Short and Long Term Effects Some short term effects (consequences) of the Silk Road was that China became richer due to the demand of their products. Their main products that they traded were: silk, cloth, oils, spices, glass, jade, weapons, gold, and porcelain. Many nations would pay a tribute to China to show that they were vassal states to China. Some long term effects of the Silk Road was the cultural exchange. Around the first century, Buddhism made its way into China. Buddhist scriptures were being traded from India into China. Later on during the Middle Ages, technology began to spread via the Silk Road. Technology like gun powder, moveable type, and the compass are some examples of this technology.
Travelers The travelers on the Silk Road often risked their safety to go on the voyage. On the Eastern part of the Silk Road it was all desert so travelers were prone to bandits and sandstorms. Travelers on the Western part had to traverse through very high, mountainous terrain by Yak. Many people died on this part of the trail. Not many traders actually made the whole journey, they would go a segment and then make their trades. This is what motivated them. They wanted to make the money. Silk sold for very high prices in Europe and porcelain was also very valuable.
