The Black Death
Causes Some causes (motives) of the widespread of the disease was the poor hygiene of Europe. Many people never took a bath so ticks and fleas were very common. Also there was piles of filth all over Europe people simply threw their garbage out on the street where people walk, and people would take the pots that held their excrement and dispose of them by throwing them out on the street.
Reactions The people that were infected had several different reactions. Some believed that this was God's way of punishing them so they would whip themselves to show sorrow for their sins. If a child became infected, the parents knew they would die in a few days so they abandoned the child. Many people also believed that the disease came in through the bad smells so people would walk around smelling flowers all day.
Summary The Black Death was an epidemic that began around the 1300's and peaked from 1347 to 1351. The plague killed a third of Europe's population
Consequences Some short term consequences of the plague was pandemic and many deaths. Also people began to ignore the laws because they realized that they didn't have long to live. The plague mainly caused long term consequences such as massive decrease in the population which affected the economy. Surviving laborers demanded more money. Peasants and serfs had much more say now that they were more valuable.
