Trans- Saharan Trade
One key to Trans Saharan trade developing into a strong trade was the camel. This is because the conditions were hot in the desert and people certanly could not carry the goods by them selves. So they had camels, who were used to the hot weather and could carry large amounts of weight, carry the goods.
The motive for these trade routes was the resources held in the Sub- Saharan coutries. These resources were things such as gold, ivory, salt, and animals. Those were resources that Mediterranean countries did not have, so they had to trade with the places that did. This gave wealth and power to African civilizations such as Mali and Ghana.
Trans- Saharan Trade transfered more things than just gold and salt, it also brought the Koran to Western Africa. Merchants would teacht he peopel of West Africa the beliefs of Islam, and the religion spread.. This caused the popularity of islam to spread.
