The Fall of Ancient Greece and Rome

Down Goes Rome!

Ancient Rome fell around 190 A.D., but did not occur right away. The Roman army was stretched out to far, in effect weakening their power. The Romans army beginning to become weak was a big downfall to the civilization. Not only were they weak but they had different beliefs. These different beliefs, of who should rule the empire of Rome, caused fights within the army. This was due to many reasons, but small civil wars and clashes with Barbarians were the main causes. Finally, Emperor Diocletian tried to save the empire by splitting Rome into two parts. The two parts were the Eastern and Western Empires. Although a good idea to prevent Rome’s fall, failure became inevitable. Due to the lacking in money for the military, taxes were raised. The raise in taxes made the citizens very angry. With unhappy citizens and everything just falling apart, Rome fell to the Barbarians.

Greece = TKO

The Peloponnesian War was a war between Persia and all of Greece. Sparta and Athens rose to the occasion and made themselves known as the two strongest and most important city-states in Greece. Greece won the war but predominately because of Athens and Sparta. After Greece won the war, Athens and Sparta went back to their old ways of feuding with each other. A war broke out between these two powerful city-states. The start of this war essentially started the fall of Greece. Sparta beat Athens, but soon later was defeated by the city-state of Thebes. The fighting within Greece practically opened its doors to an attack from another country. This advantage was taken by Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great is known as one of the most successful military commanders of all time. The gained land was separated into three parts, but was soon taken over by Rome.
