It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better I've been drowning too long to believe that the tide's going to turn
A very underrated comedy. Jason Segel writes a comical masterpiece of the modern day with this bromantic comedy. Peter Bretter is trying to get over his ex-girlfriend Sarah Marshall. Traveling to Hawaii may just do it. Jason Segel is phenomenal and hilarious as the main character. The character seems to resemble Segel's most notable character, Marshall, from "How I Met Your Mother", but he still brings his typical A-game to the role. Kristen Bell shows she can hold her own on the big screen as the title character. She provides lots of humor, yet also contributes to the emotion of the film. Her tale of why she broke it off with Peter is a very emotional scene and Bell triumphed through it. Two supporting performances really shape the ensemble for the film. Mila Kunis plays Rachel Jansen, a local who works at the resort Peter is staying at. Miss Kunis takes on the role with ease, and is radiant in every one of her scenes. Russell Brand, maybe the most underrated performance of the year, is the definition of scene stealer as Aldous Snow. The film also casts some SNL regulars, among other supporting parts. Each adds a special part to the film. The direction was very mediocre, there was nothing special to really say about it. Segel took on multiple roles in this film, also writing the screenplay, and even providing some music for the film. The screenplay screams with humor, and I found myself laughing for the majority of the film. Segel's songs are gems. From Aldous Snow's rock hits to Bretter's own rock opera tunes, the original songs in this film are some of the best and potentially most memorable. Forgetting Sarah Marshall does not try to be anything it isn't, it stays true to it's comedy roots. 85% / 100%
