Online Safety!
Thought the internet was the safest place to meet new friends? Wrong. Internet predators are all over, seeking you're information for many uses. Some can be dangerous.
On the bad side of online safety, some popular computer and identity crisises are: - Phishing: It’s the process of attempting to get people’s information like credit card details, passwords and usernames. Popular sites such as MySpace, windows live messenger and YouTube are often targeted by phishers. It is safer to open emails from unknown senders, to prevent phishers conning your details and money. Also, protecting your computer with spy-ware programs. - Stalking: They aim to get you under their control, get you scared with threats and to the point to where you can’t say no to them. They live in a fantasy where control is the number one element. Their only way to feel the sense of power is to scare vulnerable women, following their every move. They can access your details, asking for accounts under threats, they can spread rumours, say horrible things and lower your reputation. They isolate you from your family and friends, and make you feel like the only person you need is him/her. - Cyber-bullying: Cyber-bullying involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others. -Identity Theft: Tricks are where identity criminals ask you to fill out fake forms, from a fake company to get your details for accounts to access your money, or get free internet access. Anything from credit card numbers to account information, passwords, billing data and personal phone numbers and addresses have been stolen and used for criminal purposes.
Top 8 cyber security practises. 1. Protect your personal information. It's valuable. 2. Know who you're dealing with online. 3. Use anti-virus software, a firewall, and anti-spyware software to help keep your computer safe and secure. 4. Be sure to set up your operating system and Web browser soft-ware properly, and update them regularly. 5. Use strong passwords or strong authentication technology to help protext your personal information. 6. Back up important files. 7. Learnt what to do if something goes wrong. 8.Protect your children online.
