The man at the corner was home drinking his daily coffee on the seat of his little canoe reading the paper he gets from the man at the street corner. He always enjoyed the coffee and the paper. He looked so happy. A beautiful woman walked by on that one day the public was thought to be her last. The canoe man wasn't as old as you may think, at the most he was only 24 years old. The man was on his walk over the bridge when he saw this beautiful woman. Her face looked as if it were an angels, her stride...as if it had belonged to a graceful Harper’s fingers as they twinge the strings of the harmonious music made by the masters of composition. The man saw the woman was wearing a bloody rose red dress and snow white shoes while carrying a white lace umbrella. She started dancing, spinning in circles, round and round until you thought she would fall over dizzy then she would spin the other direction. The woman looked by the age of around her early twenties. But before you could admire her looks, stride, or even talent; she ran and jumped over the bridges rail. She broke the surface, gasping for breath, when the canoe man did the unthinkable. Everyone knew him for not caring enough for anybody but himself, and he always had to give his two cents. But the man was different about this. The woman had jumped over to prove a point, that the man did care. The canoe man was over the railing in a split second. He dove into the churning water with a clean brake, searching for the woman. He found her almost unconscious. He was an excellent swimmer, bringing her to shore in a matter of minutes. When her body hit the ground she immediately started choking on water from deep inside her chest and lungs. She was working the water from her system fast but she was exhausted and had to be taken to the hospital to get the water cleared from her lungs. The canoe man was waiting at the door of her hospital room, waiting for the doctor to leave the room. When the doctor left, he walked in. The woman was looking out of the window at the giant oak tree. The canoe man saw that she was still breathing and fled to the hall. He ran to his canoe home and rowed to the under belly of the bridge, hiding from the world. The woman never had the chance to thank the man and ask for his name. The woman’s point was proven that the canoe man was not as selfish as everyone thought. He was a gentle natured man, just longing for a moment in time to prove himself to the world. When the woman was old and dying, she had an unexpected visitor. All of her family had died off and she was the last one, she had no thought of who the person could be. It was the canoe man wanting to say hello and tell her that it was his pleasure to save her that one day. The man turned, walked out the door and left.
