Binge Drinking
Shiloh M. and Hannah S.
Introductory: According to the CDC “binge drinking is a pattern of drinking that brings a person’s blood alcohol concentration to 0.08 grams percent or above.” That percentage is the very least that is considered to qualify being binge drinking. Most people who get into this kind of drinking result in a much higher grams percentage than 0.08. Many of us assoiate this with college kids but infact most of the binge drinkers are adults over twenty. Any age is dangerous and the body can not handle such pressure resulting in unsafe situations and serious health proplems.
Topic Information: The term, “binge drinking” refers to drinking a lot of alcohol over a short period of time. The actual definition of binge drinking is the “consumption of five or more drinks in a row by men, or four or more drinks in a row by women.” Heavy binge drinking is doing this three or more times in two weeks. Though many people believe drinking will make them feel good, help reduce stress, or make them feel older, there’s also a lot of risks to binge drinking. Some of these risks can include difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, mood changing, or alcohol poisoning. Some signs of alcohol poisoning could be inability to wake up, bluish or pale skin, seizures, or low body temperature. If you think someone has alcohol poisoning, call 911 right away. If you think someone has a binge drinking problem, you should get help right away by talking to an adult you trust.
