VASILY ZAITSEV: RUSSIAN SNIPER
Vasily Zaitsev at first identified the Nazi sniper as "Major Konig", but it was later discovered that his true identity was Colonel Heinz Thorvald.
Enemy at the Gates is a nonfiction book written by William Craig in 1973. It tells the true story of Zaitsev and Thorvald. War of the Rats uses the same characters and setting, but the actions and plot line is completely made up.
Zaitsev: a true Russian Hero. His renown is mostly a product of propaganda. The Soviets used him as an icon in the war to boost moral.
