When Arthur recieved Excaliber from The Lake Lady he was asked by merlin ''which do you like more, the sword or the scabberd?'' Arthur replied ''the sword'', but was told that as long as the scabberd was buckled to him he would loose no blood no matter how bad the wound.
It wasn't untill the later legends that Excalibur was given to arthur by the Lady of the lake.
The name Excalibur was not the original name of the sword, it is the frenchified version. The first name was Caladfwlch which means ''hard lightning''.
With dimonds, rubys, saphires, emeralds, hilt made of gold, and a shieth made of silver the sword Excalibur is rumored to be the most beutiful sword in the world.
The original Excalibur came from the lady of the lake not the stone. the sword in the stone broke during a battle.
The reason we have not been able to find or see Excaliber is that Sir Bedivere threw it back to the lady in the lake. Why would he do this? When Arthur got the sword he was told to throw it into the lake before he died.
