Slavery Punishments
Punishments were given to slaves if they have either rebelled or not doing work caused by tiredness. These punishing’s were ended in death or minor injuries that caused slaves unable to do work. All Slaves wore chains or shackles to stop them escaping the journey to America or to the plantation. A lot of slave owners felt free to punish their slaves whenever they did the littlest things, such as sweeping the floor wrong. Punishments were whipping often 50 to 100 lashes, branding, ducking under water, getting put in stocks, slapping, kicking, tarring and feathering, and tying up. There were many punishments, some harsher than others the most common was the whips. Many slave traders used this when rounding up the Africans and on the ships, even on the plantations in the South used this but made some Owners made other slaves beat the victim or victims. Women and Men got this punishment; there was no way of turning this. These punishments originated in England. No punishment was too harsh or too mean. These punishments were done even after it was against the law in the United States. However, the worst punishments for many slaves were to be sold away from their family. They were sent far away and to new places where they were uncomfortable. Some punishments originated from parts of the South, such as a machine that was like a tred-mill except this one was more dangerous if you made a wrong move you could break your ankle or worse. Altogether these punishments were lethal and many slaves died and were injured severely. They were given these punishments for a reason and they were harsher than any person who wasn’t a slave had it.
