Magnesium has a grayish-white tone to it and it's a pretty tough metal. Magnesium is the eighth most abundant element in the earth's crust. Magnesium is not found in it's elemnt form. It is a Group 2 element. Elements of group 2 are called alkaline earth metals. Magnesium metal burns with a very bright light. Magnesium is an important element for plants and animals to have to live. Chlorophylls are porphyrins based upon magnesium. Adult human's daily requirement of magnesium is about 0.3 g day.
