An Introduction to Odyssey
Adventures in Odyssey is a radio drama (and/or comedy) created by Focus on the Family on November 21 1987. It is now a Christian CD series that I, as well as many others, listen to to learn about life. It teaches about responsiblity, trust, relationships, greed, and of course, how to live life as a Christian! This glog will tell you about the made-up town of Odyssey and the people who live there, as well as some of the writers and actors. I will have other glogs that will have the scrips to some of the stories told about Odyssey. If you want to see one about a certain topic, let me know and I'll see what I can find, or you can go to somewhere like a Lifeway Christian Book Store to look for some of your own! I hope you enjoy Adventures in Odyssey!
Writers ~ Paul McCusker as well as many others Creators ~ Phil Loller and Steve Harris Host ~ Chris Anthony (the host is a woman, don't let the name confuse you!) Actors ~ You'll see who's who as you continue!
John Avery Whittaker Voiced by Hal Smith, Paul Herlinger, and Andre Stojka. Mr. Whittaker, or Whit, is the owner of a local ice cream shop called "Whit's End," and is the man everyone in Odyssey looks up to. Whit can relate to anyone - kids, teens, adults, and of course his family. He has a wife, Jenny, two sons, Jerry and Jason, a daughter, Janna, and her son and daughter Monty and ( .) He has many hobbies besides selling ice cream. He is an inventor, a Bible School teacher, a writer, a missionary, and he's good at solving problems. Archeology is a big part of his life as well. He looks for artifacts from Bible times in the Middle East. Once he actually stubled apon a parchment that contained a map to find the buried bones of Jesus! But soon after he finds this, he dissappears! (If you would like to hear more about "The Search for Whit," make a comment!)
Connie Kendall Voiced by Katie Leigh Connie is probably about 16 years old and is a pretty up-front person. She likes to be involved in a lot of activities such as working at Whit's End, helping out at The Timothy Center, Talking on her radio show "Candid Conversations with Connie" and talking in general, driving, relating to kids, and - like every other teenage girl - dating.
Eugene Meltsner Voiced by Will Ryan Eugene is probably 27 and is academacly brilliant in all subjects. His vocabulary is larger than a dictionary. He enjoys working at Whit's End, learning and teaching at Campbell Collage, and spending time with his wife Katrina. His life as a child was not unlike any other person in Odyssey, except that his parents dissappeared in Africa when he was seven and he lived with a foster family the rest of his childhood. Later in his life, he and Katrina go to Africa on a mission trip to the (Yeh-SHON-tee) village to set up a comunication device to comtact the outside world. The (Yeh-SHON-tees) mistake him for someone they called (Mor-ROT-tee.) When he explains that he is not, a woman named (A-MON) shows him (Mor-ROT-tee's) workshop. Eugene looks through the man's journals, and realizes they look fimiliar. They were his father's! (If you would like to hear more about "Prisoners of Fear," make a comment!)
Jason Whittaker Voiced by Townsend Coleman Jason, is the middle child and the most heard of them throughout all of the adventures. Jason used to work for the National Security Agency (NSA), which is where he met his former fieance Tasha Forbes. He's helped his dad run Whit's End while he was away doing his archeological studies in the Middle East. Jason is also a missionary who's traveled to Africa, The Middle East, Guatamala, Alaska, and many other places to share his beliefs.
Bernard Walten Voiced by Dave Madden Bernard is a kind-hearted grump. (He has good-humored complaints about everything.) He's not only good at washing Whit's windows, he's good at remembering the names of kids in big families and telling stories about the Bible.
John Avery Whittaker
Connie Kendall
Eugene Meltsner
Bernard Walten

Tom & Agnes Rose Riley Voiced by Walker Edmiston & Julia Kazarian. Tom is one of Whit's best friends and owner/manager of the Timothy Center (Which was named after his son Timmy.) He has a good life on his apple orchard, but he's had a lot of heart-break over the years. Timmy died for some unknown reason, and Agnes is in an assisted living facility. She is a sweet woman (hence her middle/nickname Rose) who enjoys music and painting, but she suffered from a disease called dementia.
Jack & Joanne Allen Voiced by Alan Young & ( ) Jack and his wife Joanne own an antique shop called "J & J Antiques." Jack is another one of Whit's best friends and have known each other for forever. Actually, when they were in collage - different collages - Whit went to hear someone's speech at the library he worked at. Her name was Gwenevere Morrow. He talked with her after the speech and immedietly fell in love with her, but the problem was that she was dating Jack. (If you would like to hear the whole story, make a comment!)
Tom Riley
Robert Mitchell (Mitch) Voiced by Steve Burns Mitch is described by the creaters as the "perfect man," which is great because he's Connie's boyfriend. But as you know, no one is perfect, and Connie sees that when she finds out that he works for Nocacom, a new radio/TV/satillite/ca-ble company with one too many secrets. Mitch has been in Odyssey for only a few months since he moved there from Boston, and before that he lived in Maine. (I'm currently making glogs on the Novacom saga. It's keeping me busy because there is a lot to do with all of the characters, including Mitch, and there are about 29 episodes in all!)
Katrina Shanks-Meltsner Voiced by Pamela Hayden Katrina, Eugene's girlfriend/almost fiance, is another brilliant person who works at Campbell collage. She's very thougthful and considerate and thanks to Connie, a Christian. During the Nocacom saga, Katrina visits her parents in Chicago. While she's there she calls Eugene because of a family emergency. Her father was dying. The doctors said he had a stroke, caused by a brain tumor. They said he wouldn't live much longer, so her mom called Brandon, a pastor and a good friend to come to the hospital immediatley. Eugene and Katrina got married at her father's bedside, minutes before he died.
Bart and Rodney Rathbone Voiced by Walker Edmiston/Robert Easton & Steve Burns Father and son Bart and Rodney Rathbone are the town pranksters. They play tricks and steal and con and lie and occasionally start a riot. Bart owns his own company, The Electric Palace and Rodney owns his own gang, The Bones of Rath.
Nick Mulligan Voiced by Chris Castile Nick Mulligan, an older teen who also works at Whit's End. He is the nephew/adopted son on Mike and Tracy Mulligan and has a blind cousin/step-sister Lisa. Now living in the basement of the Mulligan's animal farm, used to be a street kid who smoked in New York, but after he came to Odyssey, he turned his life around by getting into Chritianity.
Wooton Bassett Voiced by Jess Harnell Wooton is a young adult who is the mail-man for Odyssey. Though he may be grown, he still has the mind of a 10 year old. He hangs out at the fair and the park, and in his spare time he creates "Power Boy Comics."
Aubrey Shepherd Voiced by Camilla Belle Aubrey is a bright young teenager who has a...challenging life. She has a strained relationship with her parents because her parents are Christians and she doesn't fully understand why. She also feels like she's unwanted by everyone except her "friend" Erika Coleman. Erika is a troublesome girl who like spiders, skulls, skipping school, going to wild parties, and deceving her parents. Serveral times she perswades Aubrey to join her. It becomes such a problem that Aubrey gets fired from her job at Whit's End and they both get in trouble with the police! (Again, this is in the Novacom saga so you'll hear about this later.)
Mandy Straussburg & Sarah Pratchett Voiced by Aria Curzon and ( ) Mandy and Sarah, best friends, are almost always together. Mandy is a sweet, generous, smart, little girl who loves writing plays and the color pink. Sarah is very different than Mandy, but they love each other anyway. Sarah likes to put on her tough-girl act. She's smart and a quick thinker - she comes up with great ideas and is good at getting rid of any kids who try to stick around (Alex, Cal, and Jared.)
Alx Jefferson & Cal Jordan Voiced by Travis Tedford & ( ) Alex and Cal may be cousins, but they are NOTHING alike. Alex is the more quiet, relaxed kid who loves computers and hanging out at Whit's End (as does everbody.) He spends most of his time trying to stop Cal from doing anything he shouldn't. Cal is more outgoing, in a toublemaker sort of way. When he and Alex visit Campbell Collage on a school field trip, they see Eugene and try to find him. They try to look up information on what he's doing on the collage's website. While online, they break in to the system with a password lying on the desk (Alex's mom works at the collage) and run into a mysterious person named AREM. (More Novacom stuff.)
Whit's End Whit's End is a local shop that is the hang out place for most of the kids in Odyssey. It's an Ice Cream shop downstairs with a few rooms with different things to do. Some of the more popular attractions are the Bible Room, with the Imagination Station and displays of some scene from the Bible. The Imagination Station is program that looks like a red old fashioned phone booth, but inside a seat with a dashboard in front of it. You key in where and when you want to go and it takes you to experience the Bible in person. Other rooms upstairs include the train room, where kids can build and run model trains, the library, which includes books of all kinds including some of Whit's work as well as many copies of the Bible, and the basement. The basement is where Whit stores all of his broken-down or unfinished inventions.
The Timothy Center, Campbell Collage, & Novacom The Timothy Center is another great place for kids. It's located on Tom Riley's land, on the outskirts of town. It's kind of like a YMCA and a Campsite combined. It's an activity center where you can go hiking, camping, apple picking ect. Campbell Collage is the only collage in Odyssey. One time it teamed up with Novacom, they gave the collage money to fund a research project for themselves. So it's a "I give you money you give me research," thing. Novacom is a new buisness that just opened up in an old hotel building. They brodcast shows all over the airwaves. They have TV and radio shows, they manufacture cable boxes, and are secretly doing illegal things!
