He starts to think everyone should be able to have what is get getting from the Giver. Jonas found out that a group from the community were killing the infants that weren't to be given to a family. Gabe which was a infant that was staying with his family wasnt going to survuve so janas decided to do something about it. Jonas told the Giver his plan to leave the community in oreder to start a new life and share his newly found power, and also to save Gabe. Jonas escapes with the help of the Giver. The story end with jonas and gabe at the bottom of a hill with their red sled.
Jonas was the main Character and the protagonist in the story. He started out as just another member of the community but ended up being one of the most important memebers they knew. Jonas had an idea to let other people see what he could he but the leaders all throught the community thought this was a bad idea and that the community was perfect the way it was. Jonas came up with a plan to escape the place where had lived his enire life and start a new one where people could see what he could. He told the Giver his plan and he said it was a perfect plan to escape. Jonas took Gabe, a infant who wasn't going to survive in the community so he took him with him. The story didn't really have a main antagonist it was more of a ground of people who didnt want jonas to leave and let other people have the skills he had. The community leaders didnt want jonas to go anywhere after he had recieved the powers he got from the giver. They thought this would mess up the community they had built from the ground up. As jonas was escaping the leaders ordered members from the community to go out and find jonas and bring him back to the community. Janas used the skills he had learned from the Giver to hide from the people who were after him. And at the End he did.
Another main Character is The Giver. He is a old man who knows all the secrets of the community and all its past. There is a new one about once every hundred years. Jonas was named the new one so he must be trained by the giver to learn everything the Giver knows. The man knows teaching Jonas these things isnt going to be easy but he knows jonas is up to it.
The setting of the story takes place in a small perfect community where everything and everyone are the same. No one has a better house than somebody else or a better job, everyone is equal. The community is a village where there is no color, feelings, or a way to leave. Jonas believes everyone should have the right to see in color and leave if they wanted to so he decides to become the first one in doing so. in the community you can not lie or make decicions without asking a adult. As a little kid in school you must be able to learn everything at the same rate as the other children. People are scared of change because they dont know the outcome of their own choises.
The theme of the story is their home life. When the story began Jonas was happy with his life. Being the same as everyone else and not having to worry about being different. When jonas becomes the reciever he sees that everyones life could be so much better if they could see and know what he could. He thinks everyones life should be better than what the community leaders says it is. No one has an idea of what they could see and know, people have gotten so use to their normal lifes that they are scared of change.
