The orangutan is one of the most critically endangered of all the great apes. They are disappearing at a rate of 5,000 per year and it is estimated that the orangutans have only 10 more years before total extinction in the wild.

Save The Orangutans

Ilegal Trade The trade in baby orangutans is still a very big business. The way they take the babies is to first kill the mother. For every baby that reaches the market 4-5 babies die. This can be either from falling from a great height in the trees when the mother is shot, the trauma of seeing their mother killed and sometimes eaten, diseases when exposed to humans, or from the bad conditions that they are kept in after they are captured. People do not realize that orangutans are much like humans and are extremely sensitive to emotional feeling. They also feel the effects of confinement much more than other animals.
