The faint sound of a bird's pretty song And trees that seem impossibly high I walk on the perfect jade grass And I luxuriate in the windless day I follow the birdsong so enchanting And head to the trees far away No matter where I walk, I cannot find The song I've been following so long But I know if I could just reach the trees I would find that wonderful song I reach a tree so perfectly drawn From a distance I thought it was real I hold out a hand, and caress the bark And behind the tree, I can still see Miles of endless blue sky But it's not behind, but beside the tree A picture, there only to hide And behind this wall, on the other side I hear the loveliest bird song A song I can never reach myself Though I may try hard and long You may paint the walls a gorgeous hue And hide bars behind a painted page But you will never hide this fact: A cage disguised as freedom is still a cage
