So, what does Ethos mean? Ethos is when a writer uses their reputation to make the reader believe what the writer wants you to believe.

WHAT DOES THE WEBSITE SAY? “My life is heaven now! It's a worry off my mind to know you'll be here each week and do a quality cleaning job. They do make it easier on the woman of the house. WHAT DOES THE WEBSITE SAY? “What struck me about The Maids was the quality. For the first time in years, the shower doors and chrome were clean and sparkling! I refer The Maids to all my friends and neighbors.” Penny G., WA WHAT DOES THE BOOK SAY?? DISAGREEMENT: The Shower doors might have looked clean but in reality, they were probably swimming in soap scum and germs. (p75) WHAT DOES THE WEBSITE SAY?? “I am extremely susceptible to bacteria and allergies and to all kinds of things. The Maids' Healthy Touch Cleaning System has made a real difference in my life. ” Carol F., AZ WHAT DOES THE BOOK SAY?? DISAGREEMENT: The maids don’t “really” clean, they don’t get rid of germs and bacteria. They only get the things you can see. “ Our antagonists exist entirely in the visible world – soap scum, dust, counter crud, dog hair, stains, and smears- and are able to attacked by damp rag or, in hard core cases, by Dobie.” (p.75)
