Cluster Bombs for Dummies Cluster bombs are dropped, and contain bomblets, which are released after a certain point. Eventually the bomblets begin to spin, and depending on the height, velocity, and rotation speed, determine how big of an area the bombs will cover, which can be anywhere from 200 to 400 meters. Cluster bombs are controversial because they're unrealiable. Many of them fail to explode, and end up causing more injuries, mainly to civilians, after conflict has ended.
