My DNA Procedure 1. Swish around salt water in your mouth for 3-5 minutes. 2. Add 2-3 teaspoons of soap detergent. 3. While holding the test tube, with the salt water and soap mixture in it, at an angle, slowly pour alcohol down into the side of the tube. 4. You will then see the DNA rise out of the solution; Rotate the rod in a continuous motion to get the DNA out of the tube.

Strawberry DNA Procedure 1. Place a strawberry in a plastic freezer bag and mash the strawberry with your fist for 2 minutes. 2. Add salt and detergent to the bag and mash it together for 1 minute. 3. Pour the liquid into the filteration apparatus, and drip into the test tube. 4. When the test tube is about 1/8 full remove the filter. 5. Slowly drizzle cold ethanol along the side of the test tube at an angle. 6. You will then see the DNA rise out of the solution; Rotate the rod in a continuous motion to get the DNA out of the tube.

All living things have DNA but they have different makeups. Even though DNA may look similar is some ways, living things are different in all ways. This lab showed us how this is true. My DNA and the strawberry's DNA looked almost the same but clearly you can see I and the strawberry look nothing alike.

Results

My DNA determines who I am. Since DNA is essential to heredity, that means I can at times have the same personality and qualities of my parents. Just take a look to see how my DNA makes me unique.
