I pulled the red and white stripped sweater over my head and giggled. I was really excited. It was Halloween and I was going to be a ghost. I walked through the bright and much decorated living room and pulled myself onto the couch. I was short for my age, “but soon I’ll be six and I can grow taller” I mumbled to myself. Josef, my older brother, was asleep on the couch beside me. I swear older kids sleep too much. Shaking his leg which lay next to me I tried to wake him. Josef groaned, and rose up. “Mommy’s working,” I stated. “I know,” He replied blandly taking his large palm and wiping the remnants of sleep from his face. “I want to dress up.” I whined. Sighing loudly Josef stood. “Theo, not this year - I have a date.” I felt my lip quiver as I began to cry. Seeing the tantrum that was about to occur, he quickly retracted his statement. “Okay, okay don’t cry. I’ll take you, but Kylie goes with us.” “Yuck,” I snarled. Kylie was Josef’s girlfriend and she had cooties. Rolling his eyes at my disgust he reminded me of the most important factor, “Costume.” Excited, I jumped up and ran to my bedroom as he started to make a call. Pulling the costume off of my bed, I slipped it on and screamed with enthusiasm. Grabbing the orange plastic pumpkin I use to hold my candy every year, I hopped through the house. Josef was slightly distracted as he pulled me outside into the festivity of the holiday. Around an hour into trick-or-treating I again turned back and realized Josef was gone. He must be with that girl. I stuck out my tongue on the image of them kissing. Shaking my head I felt my light brown hair shake as well. Gripping the candy-filled pumpkin tighter, I walked down the cold sidewalk making way for the oncoming children. Stopping next to the tall oak, I sat down and waited for Josef. The ground was slightly damp and had a palate of colors due to the fallen leaves. Waiting was boring, and the candy was calling my name like a siren. I remembered my mother telling me that I couldn’t eat the candy until she checked it first. After ten minutes, a man walked up to me. He was middle aged and held a polite smile. Stooping next to me, he offered a warm smile and a candy bar. I respectfully declined as he sat next to me. “You’re waiting for your sibling?” he asked. Not understanding the question I shook my head yes. “I saw them next to the corner.” He pointed. “Josef?” I asked excitedly. “Yes, I’ll show you,” the gentleman offered his hand. Standing, I grabbed his hand and followed; disappearing silently forever, eventually fading into the back of minds. For those who didn’t enjoy the ending, here is the alternate. Standing, I grabbed his hand and followed. Snapping back into reality from the flashback I smiled. Looking around a similar street, I watched the leaves fall softly, floating, slowly kissing the ground below. Moving slightly back as a group of costumed kids ran along the sidewalk followed by calling parents. I bet my mother had called for me. Wondering where I was. I bet she missed me, when HE took me away. In the back of my mind I always longed to go back, but HE said I wouldn’t be able to live if I did. I wouldn’t be the wonderful son I am now. HE promised to take care of me, to keep me from the bad ones. The beginning of diving deeper into my thoughts was stopped by the sudden cold chill that slid over my body. HE was counting on me, I would make sure I didn’t disappoint. I was so ready. I had been learning for many years. Stepping off the curb and on to the solid road beneath me I walked toward a second story brick home. It looked like it had been pulled from a magazine, it was perfectly normal. There was a small boy of maybe five in front watching all the children run down the street candy in hand. Sitting next to him I smiled lightly and offered a candy bar. “I can’t talk to strangers.” He told me in a hushed voice. “That makes sense. My name’s Theo. Now you know me, I’m not a stranger. What’s yours?” “Dylan.” He replied with a smile. “Why aren’t you out getting candy?” “No one will take me, because mommy is busy baking for my sister.” “Well, how about this, I’ll take you once around the block and bring you back here. One round only though, I don’t want to keep you out too late.” I offered. “Okay, that sounds like something mommy would like. She could have candy too!” He was so excited he jumped right up. I held out my hand and we walked away silently disappearing into forgotten pools thoughts.

All of your glogs seriously make me cry. That was awfully amazing! I will never let my kids alone out of my sight for a moment now, in the future.
