My Sister's Keeper.
By Jodi Picoult
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her childhood. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister-and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.
"It made me wonder, though, what would have happened if Kate had been healthy. Chances are, I'd still be floating up in Heaven or wherever, waiting to be attached to a body to spend some time on Earth. Certainly I would not be part of this family. See, unlike the rest of the free world, I didn't get her by accident. And if your parents have you for a reason, then that reason better exist. Because once it's gone, so are you." - Anna Fitzgerald
“You don't love someone because they're perfect...You love them in spite of the fact that they are not." - Julia Romano
“... people you love can surprise you every day. That maybe who we are, isn't so much about what we do, but rather what we're capable of when we lease expect it." - Anna
