To Kill a Mockingbird
By: Harper Lee
-- Racism: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
“Now, gentlemen, in this country our courts are the great levelers. In our courts, all men are created equal. I’m no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and of our jury system. That’s no ideal to me. That is a living, working reality!" - Atticus Finch

--One theme in To Kill a Mockingbird is racism. In Atticus's closing speech he states that all men are created equal, and they should take that into deep consideration. Throughout the Tom Robinson trial, the kids do not understand that no matter the circumstances- a white man's word wins over the black man.
