Precipitates :)
A precipitate is a substance separated from a solution or suspension by chemical or physical change.
What is a precipitate?
How is it formed?
A precipiate is formed when you mix solutions of two different ionic compounds that individually are soluble compounds, but form a new insoluble compound when mixed.
How do you determine if there will be a precipitate when you mix two solutions?
1) Solution AB results in no precipitate being formed. As does solution BC. But solution AC results in a precipitate. Which substance in solution AC is causing the precipitate? 2) When is a precipitate formed? 3) What does a precipitate look like? ::Answers:: 1) Substance A. 2) When you mix solutions of diff. ionic compounds which are insoluble with one another. 3) It depends on the substances being mixed together. But usually it is quite visible.
Test Yourself! :)
Watch it in action!
Follow the rules of solubility. If a substance is insoluble with another then a precipitate will form.
