Fragile X Syndrome
Basically no matter what you cannot get the disorder from your father, whether you are a boy or a girl you cannot get it from him, even if he has the disorder. The reason for this is he can’t pass it to his son at all because he gives his Y to the son not his X so that solves that. The reason he can’t give it to his daughter even though he gives her his X, is because when the gene passes through, the full mutation shrinks back to a premutation. Ta-Da! The mother however can give the disorder, even if she has a premutation because as the gene passes it CAN grow to be a full mutation and if she has a full mutation she has a 50% chance of giving the disorder to her offspring
Sad :( .....but watch!
The gene that causes fragile X syndrome is Fragile X intellectual disabilities one gene which is located on the X chromosome so the disorder is obviously sex-linked. The F-M-R one gene only has the letters CGG over and over and over again. Usually this series of letters repeats itself from about 6 to 44 times in the average human a person with fragile X syndrome will have CGG repeated more than 200 times.
Diagnosis FXS can be diagnosed by running test on the FMR1 gene.
What causes FXS?
What is FXS?
How do you Inherit FXS?
Fragile X Syndrome is the most common form of inherited mental retardation. the retardation ranges from mere learning disabilities to severe cognitive and or intellectual dissabilities. It is also the most common known cause of auti,m or autistic behaviors. 1 in every 259 women carry the disease and 1 in 800 men.
Of all the research I sifted through I have yet to find what it feels like to have the disease. Partly because the people whop have FXS don't even realize that they're diferent. But dont worry i've got the next best thing, What it feels like to LIVE with someone who has the disease.
There is no actual treatment for the disease but there are many different things you can do to lessen the severity of the symptoms such as special education, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and behavioral therapies Theres also medications that can be taken to lessen symptoms.
