Breast Cancer
- A symptom of cancer is a lump or a thickening in the breast or armpit. - You can detect breast cancer by regularly scheduled mammograms. - men and woman can have it but the majority are woman.
During 2006 an estimated 274,900 new cases were diagnosed. The majority of people that get it are 50 or older but there have been many exceptions. No one knows of a way to prevent breast cancer but we are spending millions of dollars a year to figure out how. There are many treatments used when you are diagnosed with breast cancer. - Surgery. Either mastectomy or lumpectomy also known as breast conserving therapy. - Radiation Therapy. - Chemotherapy, which is the use of drugs and radiation to kill cancer cells. - Hormone therapy. Breast cancer begins with the cells. Normally, cells grow and divide when the body needs them. But, sometimes, this process goes astray. Depending on how much the cancer has spread will determine how effective the treatments are.
