Who: Upton Sinclair What: Also a declared ''Muckraker,'' Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and contrubuted to the muckraking with his novel, ''The Jungle.'' When: 1878 - 1968 Where: Chicago Why: His book, ''The Jungle'' dealt with conditions in the U.S. meat packing industry, causing an uproar at the truly gross and dangerous conditions workers were forced to work among. This partly contributed to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act in 1906.
