The Suitors
In this section there is a major conflict between Odysseus as an old beggar and Antinous. Antinous beleives that he is to good for the company of a beggar and is incencensed that one would even show there face in front of him and he throws a stool at poor Odysseus. This would be an external conflict, person vs. person. The expostion is when Odysseus enters the hall as a beggar and then conflict arises. The climax is when Antinous throws a stool at Odysseus and Odysseus exclaims Antinous's wrong doing. Also in this section there is a lot of indirect characterization. Mainly Homer characterizes Antinous, he does this by showing Antinous's fiery at having a beggar in his presence and also by throwing the stool at Odysseus.
In this section of the Odyssey Odysseus shows his heroism by not even flinching when the stool was thrown at hi,m. Also the fact that he showed emotion through his words as he spoke to Antinous about his wrongs.
An epic simile in this is when Odysseus's shoulder is compared to a rock, 'The stool he let fly hit the man's right shoulder blade-like solid rock, for all the effect one saw'.
An epithet is 'the crowd of young bucks' which was used to describe the suitors.
