Creation: The Revolutionary United Front was originally created to aid the National Patriotic Front of Liberia in overthrowing the Liberian government. The RUF had its own goals to overthrow the Sierra Leonian governement but never made its true intentions clear in what kind of government they wanted to replace it with.
Horror: The RUF was well known for their cruel war methods and horrible actions. Soldiers of the RUF would do either one of two things to their victims: One, kill them or two, perform cruel almost torturous actions on them. They are known to sever the hands of their victims and even the genitals! They claim that the victim should not hold arms against their brother and that they rid of the hands to prevent them from giving government aid to which they oppose.
Children: There's an estimate that nearly 10,000 children served as soldiers for the RUF and that 2,000 still remian as soldiers in Sierra Leone today. Nearly all children soldiers for the RUF were conscripts and they liked to recruit between the ages of 7 and 12. Child soldiers were barbarious. They raised by the superior officers to be cruel and numb to killing. Some who were raised to fight were even forced to kill their own parents. Children were used for actions such as wiping out villages and guard duty. Common reports state that officers would frequently rub cocaine in the childrens' wounds to make them war crazy and ready to kill.
